Infochimps' home page was designed to facilitate data discovery though promotion of featured data sets, data providers, trending topics/tags, and of course, search. Sitewide search functionality received special attention, including a robust advanced search pane, data previewing, and multiple results views. Color and icon cues were used to differentiate data available as a free download, paid download, or via API subscription. Top-tier navigation icons and other illustrations add visual interest to what would otherwise be a text-heavy site.
